I’d be remiss if I did not tell you about the sacrifices your mother has had to make during your breastfeeding days. Because of your allergies, she’s also had to watch what she eats. If it were one or two things, it probably wouldn’t be as big a deal, but your list of allergies right now include dairy, gluten, corn, apple, peanut butter, and egg.
The dairy and corn allergies make it particularly difficult. You never realize that practically everything has one or the other as an ingredient until you start looking. If you weren’t allergic to corn, we could just look for vegan-safe foods or dishes at the restaurant, but instead your mother has to navigate through to a subset of corn-free vegan dishes.
But let me expound on what exactly your mother cannot eat for more context about her sacrifice. She is now eating soy ice cream and drinking oat milk; she can’t eat mac n’ cheese or pastries, cheese in general or anything with corn starch or has been cooked in corn/vegetable oil. And do you know what your mom’s favorite food is? CHEESE!
The only silver lining to all this are the results of your mother’s “No Cheese Diet”. With zero exercise, she is now below her pre-pregnancy weight, and back in all her old clothes. If she were a celebrity, she’d be interviewed by all the women’s mags about “How X Got Her Pre-Pregnancy Body Back.” But, I think she’d much prefer to have a slice of cheese. So I promised your mother at the earlier of you stopping breastfeeding or outgrowing your dairy allergy, I’ll throw your mother a cheese party – we’ll do the full works: pizza, mac n’ cheese, cheese sticks, hamburger helper, quesadillas. So get on it!
